Can I Download My Steam Games On Multiple Computers

Can I install Steam games on more than one PERSONAL computer?

I have three computers that I utilize for different reasons. Ii are portable, and ane is my normal gaming desktop. Right now I have Steam (and related games) installed on my desktop, simply I'd like to play some of the games on my other computers from time to time.

Is it possible / legal / etc. (without getting my account banned) to install Steam and some games on the other computers? I take no plans to try to use Steam from more than ane computer at the same time.

On the other paw, what would happen if I forgot to shut Steam down on my desktop, and connected to information technology with my laptop? Would I get a notice saying Steam is already logged in, or could they ban my business relationship for merely doing that?

Thanks.

yes, you lot tin can. i'm non sure on the specific rules, but i know using your steam account on dissimilar computers isn't prohibited. you just can't be logged in on more than ane at once (shutting downwardly steam should immediately log you out).

You can use the aforementioned account on multiple computers. You will simply to be able to have ane computer logged into Steam at a time, though. At that place may exist a way to avoid this, perhaps offline mode. And this answers your last question, you'll go kicked off Steam (logged off, not banned or anything) if you effort to log on with the account already running on another computer.

Perfect, thanks for the info guys. Some co-workers want to get together for a L4D friction match, and I wouldn't mind having some less-demanding games available on my laptop for when there's nothing else to do. :)

Answer is yet, and offline mode allows you to play more than i at the aforementioned time. Be enlightened that some Steam games 'feature' SecuRom which comes with limited activations, which would notwithstanding balk your LAN party. I don't think L4D has SecuRom though. Its mainly EA and UbiSoft titles, which unremarkably aren't worth paying for anyway.

I tired to play L4D using three of my PCs, and after updating each and then taking information technology offline, then on to the next PC until all iii were fully patched and updated and offline, I was unable to join a LAN game started on the beginning PC. Quite the bummer. If you are able to get it to piece of work, let me know !!

Unfortunately (well, fortunately for me), I'm not planning on using the same copy of the game to play at the LAN. We'll all take our ain copies; I simply wanted to brand certain there wouldn't be any bug if I had the game installed on two computers are the same time. 1 reckoner volition exist sitting idle and disconnected from Steam, while the other will exist taken to some other location and used to blast zombies for a few hours. :)

Thanks once more.

Yep, I have Steam on my lappy and my desktop. When you log in with one calculator, information technology will boot yous off of the other computer, and vice versa.

I played a game on my laptop, saved information technology, then a few days later loaded up steam and logged in on another laptop and the saved game wasn't in that location - I was nonetheless able to load the game itself though.

Does the game save to hard bulldoze? Is there no way I can play a game, salve information technology and load it upward somewhere else later?

Unfortunately (well, fortunately for me), I'1000 not planning on using the aforementioned re-create of the game to play at the LAN. We'll all have our own copies; I merely wanted to make certain there wouldn't be any problems if I had the game installed on 2 computers are the same time. One computer will be sitting idle and disconnected from Steam, while the other will be taken to another location and used to blast zombies for a few hours. :)

Cheers again.

That's one of the features of steam. You can play games and have the files saved to the cloud and then that if yous play on a different machine, you can nonetheless go on with your game. I have washed this multiple times while playing borderlands. When I used to get to my parents, I would log in on my brother'south machine and play.

information technology varies from game to game, y'all have to check if the game has cloud support and have the feature enabled

Does the game save to hard drive? Is in that location no way I can play a game, relieve it and load information technology upwardly somewhere else later?

steam allows cloud saving. Brand sure it is set to sync your games to deject and information technology should be fine. Of course, this won't work while in offline mode.

I remember that initially, a lot of games didn't support it, only many of them practice now as far equally I know.

Probably just need to load up the game on the one PC and play it a bit, save and exit, and it should motorcar-sync....actually I think the deject syncing happens as soon as you attempt to load the game through steam.

Some games that practice support deject saves won't exercise information technology cross-platform.. I've been playing Civ five on my Mac laptop, and fifty-fifty though Civ 5 supports cloud saves, and a Civ 5 salve game file will piece of work if copied from the Mac to Windows version manually, the Steam versions use split deject relieve instances, so I can't cloud relieve on Mac and open it on Windows.

It will say at the store page if it is a cloud sync title, but aye this is the best respond necro-op.

If not that you lot will have to practice it "old school" to move your save file effectually. There is a "huge" debate on this topic in another thread, but basically you lot will need a modicum of intelligence and a method to copy a file or folder from 1 device to the other.

I would be happy to help y'all however I can for the sake of PC gaming. It is not always roses and QTEs, sometimes requires critical thinking. The second you put that in a "con" category, so I apologize and am jealous, because I don't know what the sun looks similar...

This is an inherent benefit of steam, it's perfectly legal and allowed to not but install and use steam on your own computers, but you can install steam on whatsoever PC anywhere, and have access to your library of games.

The only restriction is to be online, and only 1 PC can be logged in at once.
